The construction of the new University of Iowa Children's Hospital is something to behold. What will eventually be Iowa City's tallest building (14 total floors with two of them below ground), is moving along quite nicely. Earlier today, we got a chance to not only check the progress of the building and underground parkade, but also see what the rooms will look like in the new hospital.

It was clear on our visit that the main focus is the comfort of future patients and their families. For instance, the new hospital will feature 199 private rooms. Those rooms will vary in color, depending on their usage. NICU rooms will be lavender. Why? Studies have shown new mothers and newborns respond better to that color. It seems they've thought of everything.
