The roaring '20s are back in Cedar Rapids, just in time for St. Patrick's Day!

While one long-standing downtown tradition shuts its doors on Sunday, a new hotspot arrives a few blocks away.

"Speakeasies" were the secret bars and nightclubs where folks went to wet their whistles in the Prohibition era. A new such place is opening in Cedar Rapids, but it's no secret that the new Moniker 86 Social Club sounds really cool! Best of all...they open their doors for a sneak preview this Sunday starting at 10 a.m.!

Its full opening is April 1, 2019, but "Moniker 86"  will host a soft opening Sunday, March 17. It will feature a limited menu that day, but what they have to offer looks GREAT!

That's just the menu for this special preview day. They will open in a few weeks with their full menu and what they described to the Corridor Business Journal as a speakeasy-themed bar with "1920s-inspired cocktails and old-fashioned service to fill a badly needed niche in the Cedar Rapids market."

"Cedar Rapids doesn't even know what's coming" said owner Brandon Aiels who will run the place alongside his mother at 821 Third Ave. SE in the MedQuarter District. It is located in a mansion built in the 1870s that was later renovated for restaurant use, and has operated under many different "monikers" over the years, including Daniel Arthur's...and an allegedly haunted funeral home. Here's a look at their menu:

This sounds like a hoppin' place and a great addition to downtown. We can't wait!
