131-Vehicle Wisconsin Accident Kills 1, Injures 71 [PHOTOS/VIDEOS]

The weather this past weekend, all across the midwest, is something that won't soon be forgotten. While many areas in the eastern third of Iowa escaped most of the snow and blizzard-like conditions, many other places were not so lucky. The snow and incredibly strong wind gusts Saturday night and Sunday caused very treacherous travel conditions. That was no more evident than in Wisconsin, where a chain-reaction accident on I-41 in Neenah involved dozens and dozens of vehicles.

According to the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office in Wisconsin, the first calls from the accident scene came in at 11:10 Sunday morning, February 24. There were 131 total vehicles involved with another 500 vehicles stuck behind the accident, which totally closed southbound traffic on the interstate. One person was killed and 71 were injured. Sixty-six of those injured were treated and released, with five admitted. The videos and photos from the scene (below) are frightening.

During an evening press conference, the Sheriff's Office made recommendations for what you should do if you're ever involved in an accident. They are:

• Turn on your hazard lights
• Stay in your vehicle
• Keep your seat belt on
• Try to steer and clear from the accident scene

However, when conditions are like they were yesterday, stay home. Please just stay home, it's the safest place by far.
