Young Cedar Falls Woman with Autism Could Use Our Help
19-year-old, Jewell Wilson is Autistic and has some other diagnoses as well. She deals with the effects of Expressive Receptive Disorder, ADHD, and other issues that can make life difficult to handle on her own. Her service dog, Rubix, makes her life easier.
Jewell lives with her mother and a caregiver that helps make each of their lives easier and more fullfilling. Rubix is Jewell's current service dog. Rubix is trained to help her with her daily tasks and everyday things like helping Jewell stay calm, helping her when she's overwhelmed with kisses, touch, and deep pressure. Rubix is also trained to alert others when Jewell needs assistance that he can't help her with. Rubix has been with Jewell since 2016 and has been a wonderful service dog and close friend.
That said, Rubix is soon retiring from service. 4 Paws for Ability trained him and was how Jewell met her new friend. Over time, like all of us, time passes and unfortunately, dogs don't have the lifespan we do. Retirement from service is just like anyone's retirement. He'll spend the rest of his days doing what Rubix does when he's not working. Running, playing, loving, and resting.
Jewell is needing a new friend to assist her in everyday things, just as Rubix has over the years. It costs about $50,000 for 4 Paws for Ability to raise, train, and place a service dog and it would be most beneficial for her and her family to have a new friend that can help. Jewell's family would like to raise $8500 to go toward the cost of getting a new service dog for Jewell. Here's where eastern Iowa can help.
