A third high school is on its way to the Iowa City Community School District and the massive project is taking shape.

The Liberty Lightning will make their home in the new Liberty High School on the southeast side of North Liberty, at the corner of Dubuque Street and North Liberty Road. However, the school will be part of the Iowa City district.

The construction project is a BIG one. This artist rendering and other photos show the enormity of the project... all 76 acres of it. MMSConsultants says almost 25 percent of it is wetlands and timber, which will be protected. Note that area on the right side of the rendering below.

Construction has already been underway for about a year, but there's still a long ways to go before students starting classes on the new campus in the fall of 2017. According to Edline.net, the school will have a capacity for 1,000 students initially with an addition for 500 more students expected to be ready by the 2022-23 school year.
