Discover the Restaurant Crowned the Fried Chicken Champ of Iowa

Whenever you try to rank the 'best' of anything, people tend to get a bit riled up. Taste is subjective, but what isn't? Online restaurant reviews! The folks at Yelp recently rounded up all the best spots to get fried chicken in every state. Get ready for a list that is sure to be 'finger-licking good!'

So how did Yelp come up with its rankings? The Des Moines Register reports that it was based on restaurant ratings and the number of five-star reviews. Based on that criteria, the winner of the best-fried chicken in the state of Iowa goes to The Chicken in West Des Moines!

The Chicken, which is located in the Orilla neighborhood of West Des Moines, opened for business in 2018 according to the Register. The roadhouse-style restaurant quickly became known for its Nashville hot boneless fried chicken, roasted chicken dinners, and something called the Hot Chicken Sundae.

The Hot Chicken Sundae features a biscuit topped with mashed potatoes, and boneless fried chicken strips smothered in gravy and topped with fried onion rings. Oh, and some Iowa sweet corn on the side! The Register revealed that many of the Yelp reviews mention the Nashville chicken, with many calling it "the best chicken they've ever had."

The menu at The Chicken also features plenty of appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, and more! If you want to experience some of the best-fried chicken in Iowa, you can visit The Chicken Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
