Where to Celebrate National Donut Day 2020
It's one of our favorite food holidays of the year! The first Friday of June is also known as National Donut Day.
The reason we celebrate National Donut Day is actually pretty interesting. It's, of course, about celebrating how delicious donuts are, but there's more to it than that. According to National Day Calendar:
"In 1917, the original 'Salvation Army Doughnut' was first served by the ladies of the Salvation Army. It was during WWI that the Salvation Army Lassies went to the front lines of Europe. Home-cooked foods, provided by these brave volunteers, were a morale boost to the troops."
A lot of the time, the donuts were cooked inside American soldiers' helmets, which earned them the nickname "doughboys." Just a little fun donut trivia for you!
A survey posted on National Today reveals that the top three most popular donuts are glazed, Boston cream, and chocolate frosted. I don't discriminate when it comes to donuts, but if I HAD to choose, it would be a chocolate cake donut with chocolate frosting and rainbow sprinkles!
