Waterloo police chief Dan Trelka has been asked to resign, and may be leaving the department in December.

Mark Morris with KXEL has spoken with Patrol Division Commander Captain Joe Leibold, who declined to confirm or deny the report, and attempted to reach out to Mayor Quentin Hart, who’s out of town today.

The Waterloo Police Department has been under heavy scrutiny due partly to several payouts from lawsuits involving the use of excessive force by Waterloo officers and paying $5,000 additional to a teen to not discuss publicly what happened to him (a video showing his verbal and physical abuse following a chase).
