A teenager and a 21-year-old sustained life-threatening stab wounds in a fight that apparently turned very violent on Cedar Rapids' southwest side.

According to a media release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department, UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's Hospital contacted police Thursday afternoon just before 5 p.m. about two people who had shown up at the hospital emergency room with stab wounds. Both were transported to the Cedar Rapids hospital along I-380 by private vehicle.

Cedar Rapids Police report that about 10 minutes before being contacted by UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's Hospital, officers responded to the call of a fight in the 2900 block of Breyer St. SW. However, when officers arrived, no fight was witnessed. Police believe the stabbing victims are related to the fight that had been called in.

Two young men remain hospitalized... a 17-year-old and a 21-year-old. The teenager had suffered life-threatening chest injuries. The 21-year-old had life-threatening injuries to his abdomen.

Investigators with the Cedar Rapids Police Department have conducted a number of interviews and at this time believe the people involved knew each other. The investigation into the incident continues.
