[UPDATE 5/7] CBS 2 reports the two people killed were 36-year-old Teresa Gerleman and her 8-year-old son, Henry Fields. They both lived in Belle Plaine.

[ORIGINAL STORY] An early morning incident involving a train and pedestrians in the Benton County town of Belle Plaine has left two people dead.

According to KCRG, they began to receive calls about a stalled train in Belle Plaine at around 5:15 this morning.

The Union Pacific Railroad confirmed two people died and the Belle Plaine Police Department and Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation are investigating what happened.

All railroad crossings in Belle Plaine were closed after the accident involving the Union Pacific train that was traveling from Chicago to Nebraska.

The victims were a 35-year-old woman and an 8-year-old boy. Their names have not been released.

It was less than two weeks ago that 42-year-old Justin Wisner was killed in Belle Plaine after he was hit by a train. That incident happened at just after midnight on Monday, April 23.
