In today's world, technology is all around us, attempting to make our lives better and more convenient. But sometimes, simpler is better. Take the resurgence in recent years of vinyl records. People are opting for a more physical form of music, not just streaming their favorite songs. I believe the same can be said for watches. Sure, you can have a smartwatch that tethers you to your phone even more than you already are. Or you can act like a grownup and own a real watch.

First, let me start by saying that smartwatches can have a place in your life. People who need to track serious medical conditions can often do so on their smartwatches. If you are an athlete and want to keep track of times, laps, or steps, a smartwatch can serve that purpose. But when you want the rest of the world to see you as an adult, wear a traditional watch. Here are some reasons why.

A Traditional Watch is Convenient

"I don't need a watch, I'll just look at my phone." How many times have you heard someone utter that phrase? Stop reaching for your phone just to check the time. With a quick glance at your watch, you're all set. Plus, how many times do you only look at your phone for the time? Then you check Facebook, or Tic Tok, or Twitter. Plus its rude to keep pulling out your phone during a conversation.

A Traditional Watch is Reliable

No charging. No software updates. No low battery warning. Traditional watches are powered by technology that is older than electricity! While your phone and smartwatch need a charge, traditional watches can go on forever. Some models feature solar power that run on light. Others are powered through motion. They'll last you for years without a single charge.

Traditional Watches Show Off Your Style

As a guy, I admittedly don't wear a lot of jewelry. My wedding band is about it. But traditional watches allow you to show people you care about your appearance. Watches are a form of self-expression. They can say a lot of the wearer's personality. Instead of wearing the same smartwatch as everyone else in your office, choose a traditional watch that is unique to you.

Other reasons I wear a traditional watch? I love the craftsmanship. I love being able to look at the back of my Seiko, pictured above on the left, and see the automatic movement keeping time. The tiny pieces all working together. Traditional watches can also become heirlooms, passed down through generations. One of my most prized objects is a pocket watch that my grandfather owned. It still ticks like the day he bought it.

"Boys look at their smartphones to check the time. MEN look at a watch."

Go out and pick out a traditional watch. You don't have to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars to get one that looks great!
