There have been several number one overall draft picks that have played in Cedar Rapids. But an overall number one has never played FOR Cedar Rapids. That could soon change!

18-year-old shortstop Royce Lewis was taken number one overall during last month's MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins. His signing bonus? A cool $6.7 million dollars. That millionaire will make a stop in Cedar Rapids which is the Twins Class A team in the minors. When? It could happen sooner than you think!

Lewis is currently in the rookie Gulf Coast League but is off to a hot start. He's hitting .323 with 9 extra base hits in just 15 games. Yes, it's a small sample size, but some believe he's ready for the next step, which would be A ball here with the Kernels. Sources with the Twins organization say the move won't happen too quickly. Lewis is just 18 after all, so there is no rush. But next season could be a big one in Cedar Rapids if Royce Lewis suits up as a Kernel!
