FEMA and the Federal Communications Commission will be conducting a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System, or EAS, as well as the Wireless Emergency Alert today.

At 1:20pm CST August 11th, two tests will be taking place.

The EAS test will take place nationally, and will look and sound just like the monthly tests conducted by state authorities the rest of the year. Radios and television will interrupt normal programming to play the Emergency Alert messages. It will be delivered in English and/or Spanish.

For the WEA test, it will be directed to consumer cell phones that receive test messages. Many phones will not receive the message, even if they do receive the actual emergency warnings.
