The Lies that Parents Tell
We all tell little white lies sometimes to make ourselves seem just a bit cooler than we actually are. Parents are no different. A new survey found that 73% of parents lie to make themselves seem more interesting and cool. Chances are YOUR parents probably did the same thing a time or two. What do we lie about? The most popular thing is our social life and the events we've been to. Maybe we lie about the number of concerts we've been to, or all the great parties in college we attended. Sound familiar? Parents also lie about the kind of music they like or liked. I think this happens all the time. There's no easier way to make yourself seem hip in the eyes of your kids than to start naming off bands you think they want you to like. Other popular lies include how fashionable we were and our sporting achievements. Yeah...I played sports in high school...I was great, really I was.
Stop lying to your kids, and more importantly to yourself. Be proud of who you are and what you've done. Teaching your kids to be happy as themselves is one of the most important things you can teach them. How can they learn if you lie about who YOU are?
