The Careers We Want Our Kids To Go Into
During 'Take Your Child to Work Day' last week, my son Chase got a taste of what I do for a living every day. I didn't do it to push him towards the same career I chose. I did it to make him have a better understanding of what it's like to work hard every day and earn a living. I want a better career for him and his sisters. Nothing against the field of radio, but I want better for my kids. All parents do.
A new survey looked at the fields that they want their kids to go into when they get older. Among the careers listed are two that I've talked to Chase about. Yes, I agree that 8th grade is a little too soon to be making career decisions, it's not bad to have some of these careers highlighted for future reference. Here are the careers that parents WANT their kids to be involved with.
- Engineering
- Coding
- Finance
- Healthcare
- I.T.
I've talked with Chase about being involved in computers and I.T. Whether that's a computer engineer and software developer, or someone who builds networks and troubleshoots for other companies, those type of jobs are in demand and pay well. The same survey also looked at the jobs we DON'T want our kids to have. Here they are.
- Sales
- Retail
- Transportation and logistics
- Human Resources
- Journalism
Once again, it's not that you can't be successful in any of those fields, but we know that the road will be tougher than some of the jobs listed earlier. I want my kids to be successful in whatever they do. But I also want them to be passionate and enjoy their chosen field. All the money in the world won't always make you happy at work. At least that's what I tell myself.
