Ask police officers anywhere and they'll tell you that keeping guns out of the hands of kids continues to be a challenge. However, I don't think police in Iowa City ever thought that they would catch a three-year-old with a handgun.

That is exactly what happened last Friday. CBS2 reports that a three-year-old child was found walking down a sidewalk in Iowa City carrying a loaded handgun. The child was located in the 1600 block of Vesti Lane at around 7:47 p.m. Friday. According to a criminal complaint, 31-year-old Samantha Hall says that she was cleaning and didn't realize that the child had wandered off with the handgun. Hall stated that she routinely kept the gun on the nightstand.

CBS2 reports that Hall also did not know that the child had left the house with the loaded handgun. A passerby saw the child carrying the weapon and took the gun from the child. Hall then retrieved her child and returned home where police later found them.

CBS2 reports that Hall has officially been charged with Making Firearms Available to a Minor and Child Endangerment.
