"Friends are the family you choose for yourself."

I don't know where that quote originated or when I first heard it, but it has stuck with me for years. I feel like today is the perfect day to share it with you, because it's a holiday all about friends! Today, June 8th, is National Best Friends Day.

I consider myself to be incredibly lucky because I have some wonderful friends in my life. A survey from National Today says that 46% of Americans only have one best friend, but I would say that I have three. They're all very different people and I met them at very different times in my life, but I love them all the same. Brooke and I became friends back in 9th grade, Stephanie was my manager at Forever 21 when I was in college, and Beth I met when I moved to Iowa and started working at the radio station almost six years ago. Lots of friends have come and gone, but these three have continued to stick with me, despite how annoying I can be...

The survey from National Today also revealed some other interesting things about best friends. For example, 43% of the people surveyed say their significant other is their best friend, 19% say it's their dog, and another 19% say it's their mom! 26% of men and women say they met their best friend in elementary school, 25% say it was high school, and 19% say it was middle school. 25% of the folks surveyed believe you can only really have one best friend.

In honor of National Best Friends Day, we want to hear about your BFF(s)! Share a photo of you and your best friend and tell us the story of how you met and became close! Here are some of the responses from Facebook:
