Spring Sports Practices Means Cold Sidelines For Parents
My youngest daughter Cayleigh started spring soccer practice last night. For a night in late March, the 5:45 p.m. start time could have been colder. There were no stocking hats or gloves to be seen. Some players were even wearing shorts. The spring sports season is underway and lets face it parents. These early practices and games in March and April can be a little chilly!
It's been a few years since I've frozen on the sidelines of spring soccer games. Chase played soccer for several seasons before focusing on football. He loved playing and I loved watching him. He is a runner and that's what soccer is. Tons of running! Cayleigh is a lot like Chase. She is also a runner. She was so pumped up for practice last night that she was literally growling in the back seat of the car on our way to the soccer fields. Turns out that is appropriate. Her team name is the Bobcats.
So while the kids are burning off all the energy they built up over the winter, parents huddle along the sidelines in blankets and folding chairs. Sure, we could go sit in our cars but what does that tell the kids? We'll tough it out right there with them! With highs in the 40's the rest of the week with rain, we better add an umbrella to our list of supplies. But it's all worth it. Look at the smile on Cayleigh's face. Does that look like the face of someone concerned about the weather?
