A southeast Iowa woman is behind bars, charged with shooting and killing her husband.

69-year-old Carol A. Davis of New Sharon was arrested Wednesday, April 29, and charged with shooting and killing her 55-year-old husband Steve Davis at a rural New Sharon, Iowa home. Authorities say she waited three days before calling law enforcement to report her husband's death.

According to the Oskaloosa Herald, Carol Davis called authorities around 10 a.m. Wednesday to report Steve had died. She reportedly told them at the scene that her husband asked her to kill him. After shooting him, court documents say she hid the pistol in the home.

Davis made her initial court appearance in Mahaska County Thursday morning. She'll be held in the Mahaska County Jail in Oskaloosa on a charge of first-degree murder. The investigation continues.
