Every Thursday we highlight a problem from a listener. We give our advice and ask other listeners to offer advice. Welcome to the Counseling Corner.

Dear Brain and Courtlin,

I am a grandmother of 10 and I always host our family Christmas celebration at my house. I like to spoil my grand kids of all ages, so I buy them all gifts, which I'll admit, gets a little pricey. But hey, it's Christmas. But, now that a few of the kids are older, a couple of them are bringing their boyfriends/girlfriends to the party with them. Although I have absolutely no problem with this, I'm faced with the dilemma of do I buy them presents as well? I would hate to leave them without something to open, but then again, am I REQUIRED to get them something, and how much would be acceptable to spend? I would love some input.

What Our Listeners Think:

Amy said her grandmother keeps a stash of small presents, like boxes of assorted chocolates, so everyone has something to open but it doesn't break the bank.

Phyllis thinks Grace should get them a gift if the couple are engaged, but no if they aren't.

Jenny suggested something small like a gift card.

Brittany's grandmother gives everyone lottery tickets in Christmas cards.

Courtlin's grandma, Darlene, suggested gift cards between $15-$20.
