
Weather Alert: Eastern Iowa at Risk for Severe Storms Monday
It appears that Eastern Iowa will enjoy a dry and quiet weather weekend. But warm temperatures and that chance for a severe weather outbreak return just in time for Monday.
What is the Risk For Severe Weather on Monday?
You probably have already seen online weather 'experts' talking about our chances for severe weather on Monday. Our weather partners at KCRG site the latest information from the Storm Prediction Center. According to the latest predictions, nearly all of Eastern Iowa is in an Enhanced Risk for severe storms on Monday.
What Could Cause the Weather to Turn Severe?
KCRG reports that the threat of severe weather on Monday appears to be accurate. A low-pressure system will put Iowa in a warm zone on Monday. A rush of warm and humid air will move in and make it feel more like summer. It will be the muggiest air we've felt so far this spring. Highs in some parts of Eastern Iowa could reach the low 80s on Monday, and that will add instability that storms need to develop.
When Will the Severe Storms Hit on Monday?
According to KCRG, isolated showers and storms are possible on Monday morning as that warm air moves into the state. That sets up several hours of warming temperatures with highs reaching the upper 70s to low 80s. It's going to feel a lot like summer!
Later in the day, a cold front will begin to push through, triggering storms that could include damaging winds, large hail, and possibly tornadoes, according to KCRG. The line of storms should move through Eastern Iowa during the early evening and early nighttime hours.
