Former Hawkeye Steps Down as Liberty Head Coach

CBS2 reports that former Iowa Hawkeye and NFL veteran Scott Chandler is stepping down as the head coach at Liberty High School. During his two seasons as head coach, Chandler led Liberty to a 21-4 record. He led Liberty to the state semi-finals at the UNI Dome in 2024 and then all the way to the title game in 2025. CBS2 reports that Chandler was named the Iowa Football Coaches Association 5A Regional Coach of the Year.

Chandler Looking to Take the Next Step

In a social media statement, Chandler stated that he wants to "pursue a coaching career at a higher level." CBS2 reports that Chandler attended the NCAA/NFL Coaches Academy in February, and also spent some time with the Iowa Hawkeye football program this spring in the tight ends room.

Could Chandler Return to the NFL?

Chandler had a productive NFL career, catching 205 passes and scoring 21 touchdowns. CBS2 reports the majority of his production came between 2011 and 2015, playing for the Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots. He also spent time with the Dallas Cowboys, and the Chargers, who drafted him in the fourth round out of Iowa during the 2007 NFL Draft.

Best of luck to a former Hawkeye with a bright coaching future!
