Iowa-based t-shirt company Raygun is used to raising eyebrows with some of its shirt designs. They deal with politics, religion, rival border states, and sports. But the shirt that got them sued actually violated consumer protection laws.

Raygun Sued Over Obscure Statute

The Des Moines Register reports that Raygun founder and CEO Mike Draper was surprised when he finally got sued, and it wasn't for something "spicy" like defamation. A little-known Washington D.C. law firm filed suit over the t-shirt that states, 'I Got This Shirt On Sale'. The Register reports that the shirt, however, is always on sale. Legally, that was the problem. The shirt's indefinite sale violated a D.C. law that prohibits items from being marketed as sale-priced if they've been available at that price for more than 90 days, according to the Register.

Raygun Sued and Decides to Settle

The Register reports that the law firm sued Raygun in the amount of $12,000. The company chose to settle the matter out of court for a confidential sum, less than the original amount. Raygun also agreed to stop what the law firm called "deceptive advertising practices."

Raygun Produces NEW Shirts About the Lawsuit

In true Raygun style, the company is already producing new shirts poking fun at the whole situation!
