It was about a year ago that Raising Cain's, a restaurant chain started in Louisiana, opened in Cedar Falls. Now, they're coming to delight taste buds in Cedar Rapids.

Raising Cane's is known for fresh, never frozen chicken fingers. They also have crinkle-cut fries, Texas toast, freshly brewed sweet tea, fresh-squeezed lemonade, and Cane's sauce. They'll be opening at the location of the former Ryan's Family Steakhouse, on the north side of Collins Road just east of Northland Blvd.

The restaurant chain will be tear down the Ryan's building late this year or early in 2020 and construct a new, 3,100-square-foot Raising Cane's building on half of the two-acre site. The restaurant will have indoor and outdoor seating and a drive-thru.

What will go on the other acre of the two-acre property has not yet been decided. They expect to open the new restaurant sometime in late 2020.

Raising Cane's has over 450 locations in 27 states, including three in Iowa. Those stores are in West Des Moines, Cedar Falls, and Altoona. A Davenport location is scheduled to open in October.

The co-owner and CEO of Southern Hospitality Ventures, Justin Jones, told the Gazette many more Iowa locations are coming:

Our focus is to fill out the Iowa market over the next four years. We will probably be opening another 12 or 13 restaurants, including two in Cedar Rapids, one or two more in the Quad Cities as well as locations in Coralville, Dubuque and Iowa City. We will probably round out everything with more restaurants in the Des Moines area.
