A busy Cedar Rapids convenience store was the scene of a shooting just before 8 a.m. this morning.

According to a release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department and our news partner, CBS 2, a man in his 20's was seriously injured in the shooting which happened at the Kum and Go located at the corner of 1st Avenue and 32nd Street northeast. He was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Officers with the Cedar Rapids Police Department responded to the scene at 7:52 a.m. Wednesday morning. A CBS 2 news crew on the scene reported seeing a number of shell casings and blood at the scene. A black vehicle in the parking lot was searched by Cedar Rapids Police. Blood was visible on the inside and outside of the vehicle, according to CBS 2.

A preliminary investigation by the CRPD shows a silver vehicle, possibly a 4-door, left the scene of the shooting and traveled west on 1st Avenue.

Mark Bolton, who lives nearby, was interviewed by CBS 2. He says he heard approximately 10 shots before seeing a black car speed away from the scene. A black vehicle in the Kum & Go parking lot was searched by Cedar Rapids Police.
