No Major League Baseball Game at Field of Dreams in 2023?
There's been a ton of excitement and buzz surrounding this week's Major League Baseball game between the Cubs and Reds at the Field of Dreams in Dyersville. The game is a great way to showcase, Dyersville, the Tri-States, and even the entire state of Iowa. It's going to be tough to match the thrill and excitement of last year's game when the White Sox and Yankees traded blows, with the White Sox winning it with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth.
The excitement from this year's game may have to last for another year as the Dubuque Telegraph Herald is reporting that due to construction, we're not likely to see a Major League game next year.
Frank Thomas -- MLB Hall of Famer and CEO of Go the Distance Baseball, which owns the Field of Dreams -- told the Telegraph Herald on Wednesday, that construction projects likely will pause MLB teams playing in Dyersville for a year.
Thomas also told the TH, that the start of $80 million worth of investment at the Field of Dreams will kick off around Sept. 1 with construction on the youth sports complex, complete with nine new ballfields. The plan is to build a $50 million, 3,000-seat permanent stadium around the MLB ballfield adjacent to the Field of Dreams movie site. Officials are planning for completion by August 2024.
On Tuesday of this week, the project was awarded a $12.5 million Destination Iowa grant Earlier this year, both the Dyersville and Dubuque city councils pledged $1 million toward the project, while the Dubuque County Board of Supervisors pledged $5 million.
