No, not Nicholas! My favorite Hawkeye has broken in his left hand and will be out most, if not all, of November.

Iowa men's basketball coach Fran McCaffery announced today that Baer broke a bone in his left pinky finger during a practice this past weekend. While no surgery will be required, Baer is expected to be out three to four weeks.

Baer was named Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year after the 2016-17 season. When he received the honor, the response from the Bettendorf native was pure perfection. Baer averaged 7.5 points per game last year, to go along with 5.8 rebounds, 1.4 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game. He led Iowa in both rebounds (48) and blocks (43) last season, becoming only the fourth sophomore in Iowa history to accomplish the feat.

Hopefully, Baer will be back by the Big Ten opener on December 2 when Penn State visits Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Iowa starts regular season play this Friday evening (8 p.m.) when they host Chicago State.
