Cedar Rapids Coffee Shop News – An Expansion and a Relocation

Some changes are coming to NewBo City Market and the NewBo District this month! One coffee shop is set to relocate, and another is going to takes its place. Let's get into it!

Relocation: Roasters NewBo

Roasters Coffeehouse, a longtime staple inside of NewBo City Market in Cedar Rapids, is set to move out of the market and into their own storefront in the very near future! An article from the Corridor Business Journal reports that the coffee shop will be relocating to 1120 2nd St SE, which is right around the corner from NewBo in the former home of record store Vinyl Emporium.

According to the Cedar Rapids Gazette, Roasters Coffeehouse will remain open inside of NewBo until January 18th, at which point the new tenant will move into the market. You can follow their Facebook page HERE for the latest updates.

Expansion: Uptown Coffee Company

Replacing Roasters Coffeehouse inside of NewBo City Market is the popular Marion coffeeshop Uptown Coffee Company! Uptown Coffee Company opened at 760 11th St in Uptown Marion back in the summer of 2020, and has been going strong ever since.

Uptown Coffee Company will continue to operate in Marion in addition to their new location at NewBo City Market. However, they won't be in the exact same spot that Roasters was. Instead of turning left when you enter the front doors, you'll turn right. The article from the Gazette reads:

"At opening, their NewBo location will be just inside the front door to the right in the center of the market’s two aisles for most vendors. Later in the year, they will move to the more open area where NewBo Beer and Wine is currently located. The bar, in turn, will move across the building to the space Roasters used."

As far as the menu goes, the Uptown Coffee Company at NewBo will be very similar to the one in Marion, but slightly limited. When they open, you'll be able to order beverages like coffee, espresso, and tea, as well as a few breakfast foods, but they have plans to expand their offerings later down the road. They hope to open their new location the week of January 19th.
