New Cedar Rapids Venue to Host 'Home By 9' Party for Tired Adults

Want to go out and have a good time, but still be home by 9 p.m.? A newly-opened event space in Cedar Rapids is hosting their first ever 'Home By 9' event this month!

About Ellis House

According to the official website, Ellis House is a "flexible event and creative space designed for private celebrations, corporate gatherings, brand activations, workshops, photo and video shoots, and ticketed experiences." The new venue is located at 1200 Ellis Blvd NW, the former home of MirrorBox Theatre.

MirrorBox Theatre closed its doors in November of 2025 and was taken over by new owner Robert De Corah the following month. Then, in January, Robert updated the community on the future of the space, and introduced the name 'Ellis House.' Now, the new venue is ready to host its grand opening!

The Grand Opening

Although Ellis House has already begun hosting events for several months now, the official grand opening celebration is coming up next week. It's set for Friday, October 23rd from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and will feature tours of the new space, a complimentary glass of beer or wine, appetizers, a photo area, and the chance to win $500 in event credit. For more information, you can check out the event listing on Facebook HERE.

Home By 9

Ellis House's first public event after the grand opening will be just one day later! On Saturday, October 24th, the venue will host 'Home By 9,' a party for adults who still want to go out and have fun... but don't want to hang out at a bar until 2 a.m. The event description reads:

"Remember when going out meant dancing to your favorite songs with your favorite people?

We’re bringing that back. Just a little earlier.

Introducing HOME BY 9, an early-evening dance party at Ellis House for people who still love a good night out but aren't interested in staying out until 2 AM."

Home By 9 will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will feature hits from the 90s and early 2000s, a dance floor, and a bar selling beer, wine, seltzers, & non-alcoholic drinks. Tickets are $15 per person and are limited, so you'll definitely want to purchase them ahead of time. You can do that online HERE.

Other Upcoming Events

Another public event on the schedule at Ellis House is the Halloween Toddler Rave! It's coming up this Saturday, October 17th from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and is designed for children between 1 and 6-years-old. Features of the Halloween-themed dance party include kid-friendly music, professional lighting & sound, bubbles, fun decorations, LED foam sticks, and more. Costumes are encouraged!

Tickets for the Halloween Toddler Rave are currently $15 if you purchase them in advance online. If there are any tickets left on the day of the event, they'll be available at the door for $20.
