One of my favorite parts of traveling north, say to the Twin Cities, is passing through wind turbine country. Yes, in case you missed it, Iowa is 3rd in the nation in wind energy. The huge turbines that spin through the air are amazing to watch. More and more are being added across Iowa, and the latest will be one for the record books!

According to MidAmerican Energy, a turbine being built in Adams county in southern Iowa will be the tallest wind turbine in the United States. The tower will rise 377 feet compared to the normal 263 feet. When the blade is added the height will reach 554 feet. That's the same height as the Washington Monument!  Why go so high? Officials say the increased height will help produce more wind energy. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
