Allamakee County authorities are warning the public about malicious text messages.

The sheriff issued the warning, after getting several reports of malicious text messages, that are being distributed on "568" telephone numbers, a prefix commonly used in Waukon.

The sheriff's office recommends that if you receive such a text with an attachment, to not open it, because it may contain a virus.

This phone virus apparently attaches to your telephone contact list and may forward the text to friends and relatives on your phone contact list.

Authorities advise that you immediately delete the text.

The origin of the malicious texts has not been determined.
