As summer begins and the July 4 weekend approaches, a new reality washes over everything we see and do. It's not always easy to accept that for the first time in our lifetime the summer concerts, festivals, and fairs are gone for the season.

One saving grace announced this week is the news that Major League Baseball will return for a shortened season starting July 24. Most Joe Six-Pack fans don't really care all that much about the feud between billionaire owners and millionaire players. We just want to play ball.

So when word was announced this week that commissioner of Baseball Robert Manfred exercised his right to implement a 60-game season for 2020, fans cheered.

Things got even better yesterday when the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that longtime Brewers play-by-play announcer Bob Uecker will be calling the games from an empty Miller Park.

“Even in a pandemic where everything in the world is upside down, it figures that the one constant is Bob Uecker” - Tyler Barnes, Milwaukee Brewers vice president for communications.

The 86 year-old legend known as Mr. Baseball is a wonderful storyteller, and arguably the best Major League broadcaster still working. Despite being in a high-risk group for Covid-19, Bob is the one who insisted on being at the ballpark. No broadcasting from home for Uke, he wouldn't even consider it.

This year marks Bob's 50th season behind the mic for the Milwaukee Brewers. Whether you're a fan of the team or not hardly matters. Hearing Bob's voice calling the balls and strikes brings a nostalgic return of normalcy to our nation. God Bless you Mr. Baseball and welcome back!
