Coming off of Suicide Prevention Week and during Suicide Prevention Month, Maddie Poppe returns to Iowa for a special event with free music, food, and a guest speaker to promote awareness of the cause.

Sadie Penn is a renowned advocate for suicide prevention and will be the keynote speaker. She attempted suicide as a teenager, survived, and tours the country telling her story, providing hope for others and speaks about what inspires her.

Maddie Poppe, of Clarksville, Iowa and "American Idol" fame will join a contestant from Season 13 of "The Voice", Jon Mero in performing.

Registration for "Inspire Iowa" is free, but required, as spots are limited. The event is held Wednesday, September 18 at the Knapp Center on the campus of Drake University in Des Moines from 5:30-8:45 p.m.

One person dies by suicide every 20 hours in Iowa, according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. A CDC report also found that 479 deaths were caused by suicide in 2017.
