It's hard to believe, but the new season of 'American Idol' is almost over! Last night was part one of the big finale, with the final three contestants performing three songs a piece. First up was their brand new singles that were just released on Friday.

The judges ruled that Maddie's performance of her song "Going Going Gone" was the best out of the three original songs, and I can't say I disagree. She did seem a bit nervous up there, but performing your very first single that you just learned two weeks ago can't be easy. Given the circumstances, I think she did fantastic. I also love that the song was written by fellow Iowan Julia Michaels!

Next up, the contestants were asked to bring back one of their favorite songs from earlier in the competition. Gabby and Caleb did really well the second time around, but Maddie did something different by bringing back one of her original songs. She sang "Don't Ever Let Your Children Grow Up," which we haven't heard since way back during Hollywood Week. I think her initial performance of that song is what really made her stand out from the other contestants, so reintroducing it now was a great choice.

And finally, we had the third/final songs of the evening. All three contestants closed out the show with a new song choice, and Maddie KNOCKED HERS OUT OF THE PARK. She did a cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide," and it was so spot on that it almost brought me to tears.

Maddie has been so true to herself during this competition and so consistent in her song choices, I honestly don't think anyone else deserves to win American Idol more than she does. She just seems so genuine and humble and sweet, and that makes it so easy to root for her. I know a lot of people out there want Gabby to win because she's such a powerhouse, and powerhouse singers are the people who typically win these singing shows, but sometimes the quieter contestants can make the loudest statements. Even if Maddie wasn't from Iowa, I would 100% be pulling for her.

Tonight's American Idol finale will kick off at 8 p.m. on ABC! I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for Maddie!
