Marion native Marcus Paige is a legend at his former high school Linn-Mar. He also had a stellar college career at one of the most prestigious programs in the nation, North Carolina. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that Paige's playing days are apparently over and that he is about to land his first college coaching job.

Paige was Mr. Basketball in the state of Iowa back in 2012. As a senior, he averaged over 28 points per game. As a junior, he helped lead Linn-Mar to the class  4A State Championship. In college, he left Iowa to play for the North Carolina Tar Heels. The Gazette reports that Paige started 139 games for the Tar Heels and would go on to become the school's all-time leader in 3-pointers, consecutive games with a 3-pointer, and 3-point shots made in the NCAA Tournament. Paige's biggest shot came in the 2016 National Championship game when his off-balance shot tied the game.

The Gazette reports that after college, Paige had a short stint in the NBA, playing five games for the Charlotte Hornets in 2018. He then played professionally overseas in Serbia, France, and last season in Spain. While Paige's playing career appears over, he is heading back to a place where he made plenty of memories.

Inside Carolina reports that Paige is expected to be named the men's basketball program director of team and player development for North Carolina under current head coach Hubert Davis. The position became available when former director Jackie Manuel left for an assistant coaching position at American University.
