A New Corridor Cat Cafe Has Already Had More Than 150 Adoptions

There's a good reason that cat lounges have become so popular! Not only do people get to spend time with adorable kitties, but they also have the opportunity to make them a part of their family!

Kitty Corner Social Club is an Iowa City cat lounge that just opened this year, but they've already found homes for tons felines. According to social media, they've had more than 150 cat and kitten adoptions in the last 8 months!

What's Kitty Corner?

Back in February of this year, Kitty Corner Social Club officially opened its doors at 20 S. Clinton Street in Iowa City, right next to Airliner. According to the website, the business serves as a "cozy, welcoming space where humans can relax, hang out, and spend quality time with adoptable cats in a stress-free environment." For a small fee, people of all ages can stop in and visit with 6 to 10 cats for 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or a full hour.

Cat Adoptions

All of the cars at Kitty Corner Social Club are up for adoption, with the exception of a very important employee: Goose, Director of Communications.

According to the Daily Iowan, the adoptable cats and kittens at Kitty Corner come from local shelters and rescues that are within a 90-minute drive of Iowa City. That includes the Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center, Muscatine County Humane Society, the Cedar County League for Animal Welfare, and more.

Back in August, Kitty Corner Social Club celebrated their 100th cat adoption! According to an article from the Iowa City Press Citizen, the lucky kitty was a five-month-old tabby named Hot Love.

Since then, the adoptions haven't slowed down! Just yesterday, October 24th, the business posted a photo of a cat named Jacob Black, and the caption reads:

"Jacob Black: But where did they all go?

Us: Home. You go on Sunday."

The caption also features the hashtag "#156," indicating that he's Kitty Corner's 156th adoption! That's pretty impressive after only 8 months in business!

How To Visit Kitty Corner

Kitty Corner Social Club is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It's $11 for a 15-minute session, $15 for a 30-minute session (the most popular pick), and $22 for a full hour. They also offer student discounts.

Walk-ins at Kitty Corner are welcome, but because they limit the number of guests to 12 at any given time, they recommend making a reservation online. You can do that HERE. And, if you plan to visit often, they also have monthly memberships available!

In addition to regular business hours, Kitty Corner also hosts events like cat yoga, trivia nights, art classes, meetings for knitting groups and book clubs, and more. You can also host your own event there if you have a group of 8 or more (maximum of 15 people).

Here are a few other things you should know before visiting Kitty Corner Social Club:

• They do not serve any food, but you CAN bring in your own food. The site says, "our focus is on creating a clean and safe environment for our feline friends, so we’ve kept it simple with just self service free drinks."
• Everyone must sign a waiver to enter - children are welcome, but there must be an adult present to sign a waiver on their behalf
• If you have a group of 8 or more, please make a reservation for your visit
• You must wear socks
• You DO NOT need to be interested in adoption to visit the lounge! All cat-lovers are welcome!
• There is kitty merch available for purchase online and in the lounge
• Please do not pick up or feed the cats, and don't disturb them if they're taking a cat nap! Be gentle with the kitties and let them come to you
