JCPenney Releases List of Stores They’ll Close This Summer

Just three weeks after filing for bankruptcy, JCPenney has announced they'll close 154 stores this summer, across 38 states.

On the company's website Thursday, a statement said,

Following a comprehensive review of our retail footprint, JCPenney made the difficult decision to close 154 stores. We will continue to operate the majority of our stores and our flagship store, jcp.com, to ensure our valued customers continue to have access to the products and brands they need and want.

The closures include 16 stores across Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Here are the specific cities in each state that will lose stores:

• Illinois: Bourbonnais, Calumet City, Carbondale, Freeport, and Mt. Vernon
• Iowa: Carroll and Marshalltown
• Minnesota: Coon Rapids, Eden Prairie, Maple Grove, and Willmar
• Missouri: Independence and Kirksville
• Nebraska: Grand Island
• South Dakota: Brookings
• Wisconsin: Menomonee Falls

According to CNBC, store closing sales at all of the locations will begin next Friday, June 12. The stores are expected to close by early October at the latest, following sales that could last up to 16 weeks.
