Davenport Iowa Is On The List Of Places With Worst Bed Bugs
As someone who lives in Davenport, this one honestly made me do a double-take. Davenport has officially landed on Orkin’s annual list of the worst cities for bed bugs, and yeah… that’s not exactly a list any of us want to be on.
Moving Up 8 Spots On The List
According to the latest annual ranking from pest control company Orkin, Davenport appears at No. 21 on the Top 50 list of worst cities for bed bugs.
The rankings are based on how many bed bug treatments their technicians performed over the past year. And unfortunately, Davenport made the cut. That means bed bugs aren’t just a rare problem here... they’re popping up often enough that professionals are being called in regularly to deal with them.
Davenport Isn't The Only Iowa City On The List
Nearby Cedar Rapids also made the list at No. 20, showing that regions across eastern Iowa are encountering more trouble with these pests than many might expect.
If you’re like me, you probably assume bed bugs are a “big city” issue or something you only hear about when traveling. But this shows they can be a problem anywhere, including right here in the Quad Cities. Apartments, homes, hotels, and even public spaces can all be affected. And no, this isn’t about cleanliness. Bed bugs are equal-opportunity pests. They hitch rides on luggage, clothing, furniture, and basically anything soft they can hide in.
Bed Bugs Are Hard To Get Rid Of
What’s frustrating is how hard they are to get rid of once they show up. They hide in mattresses, couches, baseboards — places you wouldn’t even think to look. Many people don’t realize they have them until they start waking up with bites.
So while it’s not great to see Davenport on this list, it’s a good reminder to stay alert. Check hotel rooms, be cautious with used furniture, and don’t ignore signs like unexplained bites. Bed bugs might be small, but clearly, they’re becoming a big problem right here at home.
