Iowa’s Tight End Tandem Both Drafted in First Round of NFL Draft
Iowa's tight ends did it. T.J. Hockenson and Noah Fant of the Hawkeyes were both drafted in the opening round of Thursday night's NFL draft. It marks the first time in the history of the NFL draft that two tight ends from the same school were both drafted in the first round. Incredible!
The 2018 Mackey Award winner for the nation's top tight end, Chariton, Iowa native T.J. Hockenson was taken with the #8 pick by the Detroit Lions.
Just how amazing is what T.J. has accomplished in the last few years? Pat Harty put it perfectly:
Iowa's second tight end chosen in the opening round was Noah Fant. Fant, who tied the NCAA record for touchdowns by a tight end with 11 during his sophomore season in 2017, was chosen with the 20th pick by the Denver Broncos.
Two first-round picks from Iowa on a record-breaking night. What's most amazing of all is that combined, they played only five seasons in an Iowa uniform. Congrats guys. Do us proud in the NFL. We know you will.
