Iowa’s Maddie Poppe is Safe Another Week on American Idol
What a night! This week's episode of ABC's American Idol was easily my favorite of the season so far. The top 10 were asked to choose Disney songs to perform for a spot in the top 7, and Iowa's own Maddie Poppe did what she's best at: she chose a song you'd never expect!
The Clarksville native is safe another week after a great rendition of "The Bare Necessities" from The Jungle Book. Maddie showed a little bit more of her range in this particular song, which was suggested to her by the iconic singer/actress Idina Menzel. She looked and sounded gorgeous, and she seemed to enjoy herself on stage. I've never seen her smile so much! Here's the video from last night, just in case you missed it (she was the first one to sing!):
Unfortunately, three other contestants were not as lucky as Maddie. Dennis Lorenzo, Ada Vox, and Michelle Sussett got the least amount of votes, and were all sent packing at the end of the episode. I honestly thought Dennis and Michelle had their best performances of the season so far, but that's what happens when you get this far into the competition and EVERYONE is bringing their a-game. I was most sad to see Ada go, especially after she went out on stage and NAILED "The Circle of Life." It was one of my favorites of the night and I don't think she deserved to go home.
Next week all the contestants will be taking on Prince songs, but in the meantime, here are a few of my other favorites from this week:
