This Beef Jerky Sold in Iowa Could Pose a Serious Health Risk
Is there any better gas station snack than beef jerky? But there is one brand you need to NOT grab, as they have issued a recall in Iowa.
Imperio Beef Jerky Issues Recall
KCRG reports that Imperio Beef Jerky has recalled 946 pounds of its product that it says was not properly inspected and was improperly labeled. The recall is for Imperio beef jerky in original, fuego, and limon varieties. The jerky was packaged between January and October and sold in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin.
Why Was The Jerky Recalled?
KCRG reports that a USDA food inspector discovered that products from the Elgin, Illinois factory were not inspected, but were still packed with a USDA inspection seal on the label. The recall is classified at the highest level, saying that the product has a high probability of causing serious health reactions and even death. Food that hasn't been inspected could contain allergens, bacteria, or other harmful substances, according to KCRG.
What Should You Do If You Have The Product?
The USDA urges anyone with this brand of jerky to NOT eat it, according to KCRG. You're urged to contact your health care provider if you experience any adverse reactions to the food.
The USDA notes that there have been no confirmed reports of illnesses from the recalled jerky.
