Happy National Pet Day!

Before I moved to Iowa in 2014, I lived with my mom and our two pups Petey and Charles. Petey passed away unexpectedly a few years ago, and my mom adopted Fiona shortly after. I know I don't live with either of them now, but I still consider them family! Charles is a cranky old pug/Boston terrier and Fiona the giant baby is a pit mix.

Back in 2020, I was finally able to adopt a pup of my own here in Iowa. I got Tater from Last Hope Animal Rescue right before the pandemic shut everything down, and I'm so thankful I did. I don't think I would've made it through that time without him! He's my sweet, snaggletoof weirdo and I wouldn't trade him for the world. Tater is a pug/Jack Russell terrier mix and he will turn six this June.

One of the reasons my family is super into dogs is because I am very allergic to cats. We had a couple of cats that I was obsessed with when I was young, but now I can't walk into someone's house without having an almost immediate reaction. We also had a couple of parakeets at one point, but other than that, it's been all pups. I'm definitely a crazy dog lady and I'm totally fine with it!

Because today is National Pet Day, we asked Eastern Iowans to introduce us to their dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, farm animals, and whatever else they have! Here are some of our favorites:
