Iowa Veterans Headed To Washington Aboard Honor Flight

Nearly a hundred Iowa veterans and their companions will take off this morning for Washington D.C. aboard honor flight #36. They served in conflicts including Vietnam, Korea, and World War 2.

The honor flight program is amazing. Allowing these veterans to go and visit our nation's capital and return home in one day can be tiring, but most, if not all, will tell you the trip is well worth it. Many veterans weren't exactly welcomed home with open arms after certain conflicts. This is a chance for us to say thank you for your service. Veterans and their guardians will visit the Vietnam and Korean War Memorials, as well as the World War 2 memorial and Arlington National Cemetery.

This morning's flight departs at 7:15 a.m. People are encouraged to come back to the airport tonight and welcome these veterans home to Iowa. They are scheduled to return to Cedar Rapids at around 8:45 p.m. Parking will be free to those attending.

Eastern Iowa honor flight #36 is comprised of 3 WW2 veterans, 29 Korean War veterans, and 60 Vietnam War veterans.
