Iowa Senator Joni Ernst has bowed out of the running to be the running mate for Donald Trump. Ernst's office confirmed to KCRG TV that Ernst told Trump that she wants to focus on representing Iowa in the U.S. Senate.

Despite serving in only her first term, Ernst was widely believed to be a favorite to run as Vice President along side Trump. The two met over the 4th of July in New York City, where Ernst expressed her support for Trump in his battle against Hillary Clinton.

Ernst said that she had not been vetted as a potential Vice Presidential candidate.
