First Ever Iowa Scarecrow Festival is This Weekend in Cedar Rapids!
There are certain fall decorations that appear in abundance during the month of October. Pumpkins, ghords, even the occasional hay bale. But perhaps nothing says Fall and Halloween, for that matter, like a scarecrow. This weekend, you can see scarecrows on display, and this family-friendly event is raising money for a great cause.
The Iowa Scarecrow Festival will make its debut this weekend in Cedar Rapids. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that the event will take place at the Hawkeye Downs Expo Center on Saturday, October 18th. It will run alongside the very popular Made in Iowa Fall Market, which draws over 150 vendors. Thousands are expected to attend.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, and over 50 scarecrows will be on display. The Gazette reports that families, businesses, schools, and organizations all took part in creating the scarecrows. You'll see some stuffed with straw, and others made of metal, fabric, and even kitchen utensils!

Admission for the debut Iowa Scarecrow Festival is just $5, and Made in Iowa has partnered with Together We Achieve, a Cedar Rapids-based non-profit that is working to end hunger in Eastern Iowa, according to the Gazette. 10 percent of all door proceeds will go to support local hunger relief efforts. From 2 to 3 p.m., certain scarecrows will be available for adoption via a donation.
Some scarecrows are meant to scare you. The scarecrows you'll see on Saturday are meant to help those in need.
