Iowa Road Trip: The Nearly 100-Year-Old Tower
You may be aware of this, but it was news to me that there's a nearly 100-year-old tower near Winterset, Iowa. I think a road trip to go castle exploring is in order.
I have to credit a random person on YouTube for this recent share of their adventure to the Clark Tower. It gives you an idea of the road leading up to the tower itself also.
If you're wondering exactly where this is located, it's on the outskirts of Winterset which you can see via Google Maps.
I checked out Trip Advisor and it appears I'm not alone in thinking this is a neat and unusual feature to find in Iowa. A recent couple left a curious review:
This was our castle, our fort and secret hideout when we was kids. Also most people never knew there is a secret Indian trail to it a lot faster than the road.
Is it just me or does this seem almost like an Iowa version of "The Goonies"? Secret Indian trail? Sign me up.
Another pleased person mentioned:
It is a nice dirt road and walking trail of 1 mile from the city park. Interesting tribute to the family who lived in the county for 80 years. Looks like a midlevel castle and can be climbed.
Clark Tower seems like an ample reward for walking a mile or so. Check out Trip Advisor for more of what people are saying that made this a destination.
