Iowa National Guard Troops Headed To Puerto Rico
Supermarkets are slowly reopening in Puerto Rico following the devastation of Hurricane Maria. But much of the island remains without power and many residents are going home empty-handed from stores.
Puerto Rican officials say that a few ports have been cleared of debris which should allow stores to begin restocking supplies, but it could still take weeks. Residents are waiting in long lines only to leave with a loaf of bread and some bananas.
Meanwhile, Iowa National Guard troops are on their way to the island. The men and women deployed are members of the military police and will help relieve Puerto Rican law enforcement who have been working around the clock since the hurricane. For now, the troops are scheduled to be in Puerto Rico for 2 weeks but many say they'll stay as long as they are needed.
