Iowa & Iowa State Heading to Same City for Bowl Games
Fans of the Hawkeyes and Cyclones will be battling for hotel rooms, with both headed to the same stadium this bowl season.
The Iowa Hawkeyes are headed for another New Year's Day bowl game. The Hawkeyes will be taking part in the Citrus Bowl at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida. It's Iowa's first trip to that bowl game since January 1, 2005. Then known as the Capital One Bowl, well no Iowa fan alive doesn't remember how that one ended:
Iowa, 10-3, will take on Kentucky of the SEC. The Wildcats finished the season at 9-3.Their three losses were to Georgia, Mississippi State, and Tennessee. Kentucky is ranked 25th in the newly-released AP Top 25. They are ranked #22 in the final College Football Playoff rankings, while Iowa is #15.
The Wildcats head coach is Mark Stoops, one of three Iowa brothers to play college football at Iowa. During his Hawkeye career in the 1980s, Iowa played in four bowl games.
The Citrus Bowl airs on ABC on New Year's Day at noon, Iowa time.
Iowa State, 7-5, will be the first team to play in Orlando's Camping World Stadium during the holiday season. The Cyclones will play in the Cheez-It Bowl.
Iowa State will take on Clemson from the ACC. The Tigers are 9-3, having lost to Georgia, North Carolina State, and Pittsburgh. The Tigers are ranked 19th in the newest AP Top 25 as well as the final College Football Playoff rankings.
The Cheez-It Bowl airs on ESPN on Wednesday, December 29 at 4:45 p.m. Iowa time.
