The Iowa Hawkeyes have been known for their incredible defense the past several years and it looks like they'd like to keep that going moving forward. According to the NCAA, the University of Iowa's defense ranked 7th overall last year, which is another season the Iowa Hawkeyes have finished in the top 10 rankings, on that side of the ball.

The team hopes they've added a piece to continue the dominance on that side of the ball. The Iowa Hawkeyes have landed linebacker, Carson Cooney, a 3-star recruit from Oswego, Illinois.

According to Hawkeye Central, Carson Conney is a 6'3, 215-pound linebacker, who was ranked as the 17th-best player coming out of Illinois, and the 51st-ranked linebacker in the nation. Cooney had multiple offers from various schools to play at but in the end, has verbally committed to playing for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

High school players who are deemed a 3-star recruit are considered "Good prospects" according to Fox Sports"Prospect has above average physical ability and demonstrated skill. Prospect will contribute to a program and will probably earn a starting job eventually but still needs some development in at least one aspect of the game to be effective at the college level.

Cooney chose Iowa over Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Kent State, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Talk about having a ton of options...One of the possible reasons Cooney chose Iowa was because Iowa was one of the first five programs to offer Cooney a roster spot, as they extended their offer from back in October of 2023.

According to Hawkeye Central, this is the 4th player to join Iowa's 2025 class and is also the second linebacker added. Kirk Ferentz's 2025 recruiting class is currently ranked 29th in the country. Here are a few of Caron's highlights from his Junior season!

If everything pans out for this new Iowa commit, it will be a lot of fun to watch him develop for the University of Iowa. I have a feeling will be seeing Cooney on Saturdays, sooner rather than later.
