GALLERY INFORMATION
- Caitlin Clark
- An obvious choice, I know, but she's iconic! Caitlin may play for the Indiana Fever now, but Iowa will ALWAYS claim her as their own.
- Corn
- What's more Iowa than corn? Nothing. I actually went as corn my first Halloween that I lived in Iowa. It was a homemade costume, too!
- Ashton Kutcher & Mila Kunis
- Ashton Kutcher is one of the few celebrities that grew up in Iowa, and he and his equally-famous wife Mila Kunis come back to visit quite often. It would be a really easy couple's costume... bonus points if you dress like Jackie & Kelso from That 70s Show!
- Butter Cow
- The Iowa State Fair's Butter Cow is EASILY the most famous farm animal in Iowa. And, the best part about the costume is that you don't have to hang out in a refrigerated display! Real butter not included.
- Buddy Holly
- Buddy Holly may not be from Iowa, but he will always be a big part of Iowa history. Buddy, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson died in a plane crash near Clear Lake on February 3rd, 1959, also known as "The Day the Music Died." There's even a monument of his iconic glasses located at the crash site!
- Slice of Bread
- Did you know that sliced bread was invented by an Iowan? Otto Frederick Rohwedder of Davenport developed the first commercial bread-slicing machine in 1928... and the rest is history!
- American Gothic
- Iowa's most famous artist is Grant Wood, and his most famous painting is 'American Gothic' from 1930. Slap on your overalls, grab your pitchfork, and stop at the American Gothic House in Eldon for an authentic photo!
- Cap'n Crunch
- Since the Quaker Oats plant is the largest cereal mill in the world, it makes perfect sense to embrace one of its most famous mascots... especially one that reps a cereal that makes the city smell incredible! I had lots of fun making this costume a few years ago, but the GIANT hat was definitely my favorite part.
- Slipknot
- This Iowa-founded heavy metal band already wears interesting masks, makeup, and costumes, so turning it into a Halloween costume is a no-brainer!
- Busch Light
- If Iowa had an official state beer, it would be Busch Light. Enough said.
- Hailey Whitters
- Hailey Whitters is not just a native Iowan and country singer... she's the "CORN QUEEN!" Her uniquely traditional country attire would definitely be a fun costume for music fans!
- Herky/Cy the Cardinal
- Are you Team Iowa? Or Team Iowa State? Show your allegiance by dressing up as your favorite team's mascot for Halloween!
- 'Field of Dreams' Ghost Baseball Player
- Why be a baseball player when you can be a GHOST baseball player? 1989's 'Field of Dreams' offers some great Halloween costume inspiration. And, its another spot you can actually visit here in Iowa for an authentic photo!
- Taco Pizza
- Pizza costumes are easy to come by, but why not spice things up a bit and turn it into a TACO pizza costume? After all, taco pizza was invented by Happy Joe's here in Iowa!
- John Wayne
- Winterset, Iowa is the birthplace of John Wayne, one of the world's most iconic cowboys. You can actually visit his birth home and a museum dedicated to him on your next visit to Madison County!
- The Music Man
- River City, Iowa may not be a real city, but the musical that takes place there is VERY real. If you enjoy dressing up like a member of an old-school marching band, Harold Hill from 'The Music Man' might be the perfect character to portray this Halloween!
- Giant Tenderloin
- There's no food more Iowan than an ENORMOUS pork tenderloin... except maybe a loose meat sandwich. But, a tenderloin seems like it might be a slightly easier costume to create. You'll look delicious!
- Captain Kirk
- Star Trek's Captain James T. Kirk, for whatever reason, was born in the town of Riverside, Iowa. They even hold a festival in his honor each summer! He's definitely Iowa's most famous alien-fighting space explorer.
- Blue Bunny
- Le Mars, Iowa is home to the iconic ice cream brand Blue Bunny. But, instead of dressing up like a standard ice cream cone, you could be a an actual Blue Bunny for Halloween!
- Burger-Eating Zombie
- One of Iowa's most famous restaurants is Zombie Burger in Des Moines, so why not get a little creative with your standard zombie costume and throw in some burger references? Yum!
